His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, was at ArchCare at San Vicente de Paúl December 10 to celebrate Mass and visit with residents of the Assisted Living Unit that ArchCare created to house them after they were evacuated from their Queens group home and left in a Brooklyn shelter following Hurricane Sandy. At the time, New York State granted ArchCare an emergency license to provide assisted living support to the 59 evacuees on an empty floor of the South Bronx nursing home. Last month, two years after the storm and after $2 million in renovations, the state granted the unit a full operating license. The residents, many of whom have special health and social needs, are now looking forward to the holidays knowing they are truly in their permanent home.
