Gina Esposito was among the health care workers bearing the brunt of the springtime coronavirus (COVID-19) wave at Carmel Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Dongan Hills.

Nursing homes served as a front line to the coronavirus outbreak on the borough, and nurses who spoke to the Advance/ in April lamented the surge of cases seen in the facilities as testing and personal protective equipment (PPE) were both extremely scarce.
