DOVER PLAINS – Deepening its commitment to providing healthcare to underserved populations throughout the Hudson Valley, ArchCare, the healthcare ministry of the Archdiocese of New York, launched a new mobile health center to deliver primary care and other essential health services directly to those who need them most.

Jane Hidalgo remembers feeling helpless.

After major surgery in July 2014, she faced a lengthy recuperation period. She was fitted with a neck brace and was rarely able to leave her apartment.

“I couldn’t do much — getting groceries, exercise, anything,” said Hildalgo. “If it wasn’t for the program, I would have been lost.”

Bridging The Health Care Gap In Sunset Park

Once a month, a door opens on Third Avenue in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park. It is easy to pass by without taking notice, but for the people who do walk in, they find services that are hard to come by.

The open door leads to Academy of Medical and Public Health Services, a non-profit organization that provides free health screenings for underserved communities and a safe-haven for those who have fallen through the cracks in our healthcare system.
