BRONX, NY, October 4, 2024 — His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, celebrated a Mass at Calvary Hospital on October 3rd, dedicated to palliative care and hospice patients and their families throughout the diocese, commemorating Calvary’s 125 years of compassionate care across New York.

“We honor each person’s entire journey, from first breath to last. Calvary’s dignified, loving care comforts and elevates all of us,” said Cardinal Dolan.

Cardinal Dolan ministered at bedside to patients and families, blessing rosaries and Calvary medals while providing words of solace. During the mass, he addressed the significance of palliative and hospice healthcare professionals and emphasizing Calvary’s century-long role in alleviating suffering and enhancing the quality of life for New Yorkers facing serious illnesses.

“This Mass is a beautiful way to bring our care-community together and provide spiritual nourishment to patients and families and their doctors, nurses, social workers, counsellors and pastoralists,” said Scott LaRue, President and CEO of ArchCare, the healthcare ministry of the Archdiocese of New York, under which Calvary operates.

“We believe that every person – of all faiths – deserves to experience compassion, peace, and dignity at the end of life,” said Mr. La Rue.
