Grand Opening on May 5th, 2025!
This year New York Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli released a report showing child care services in the mid-Hudson region leave over 60% of families in a child care desert.

Child care deserts occur when a specific area, measured by census data, does not have enough places to meet family needs. Many families are lost without a care provider while facing staff shortages and low capacity.
As a leading regional care provider, we are rising to meet the needs of our community in Rhinebeck. ArchCare, the Continuing Care Community of the Archdiocese, is excited to announce the opening of the Honeybee Child Care Center at Ferncliff Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
“We are very excited to provide this unique opportunity for our staff who have young children. They will be able to work with less stress knowing their little ones are well cared for and very close in case they’re needed.” shares Dorice Tokarz, Administrator at ArchCare at Ferncliff, “It opens wonderful child care opportunities for our local community members as well.”
The center is designed for ArchCare’s essential healthcare workers, like nurses and nurse assistants, to help them find trustworthy child care while balancing work needs. To meet the needs of every family, the center incorporates home languages, translates communications, and conducts assessments in children’s native languages.
The facility features:
- Care for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children
- Space for 41 children with spacious, vibrant classrooms and age-appropriate learning tools
- Secure outdoor play areas that encourage play and active exploration
- Highly qualified, compassionate childcare professionals dedicated to early childhood development
- Freedom of Movement Certification where infants and toddlers can move freely to build confidence and support developmental milestones
“We believe every child is a unique individual with limitless potential,” shares Honeybee Child Care Center’s Chief Financial Officer Kathy Evans. ”We are here to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where infants, toddlers and preschool-age children can thrive.”
Despite improvements in city areas, rural regions have seen little to no relief in child care availability, with limited spots and significant gaps in service. The Honeybee Child Care Center in Ferncliff is conveniently located at Ferncliff Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Rhinebeck and offers a safe, nurturing, and care-focused environment.
